The past few weeks of school have been crazy, I am not going to lie! Last minute project adaptations, assignments, and life happening all around me. What is life though without a little chaos? Life would be boring without some form of drama.
Amongst the drama, we held the 2011 All Student Gallery Exhibition at the Slusser gallery of the U of M art school. I entered a large 32×46 oil painting done on canvas to toss my hat into the ring. The painting was created with my friend Jess by body painting the entire front of her body with body safe paints. We then smushed her onto the canvas to represent the ‘human element’ of the piece.
I went through several trial and error periods to get a positioning of the flower elements which represent earth in the piece to my liking. I ended up roughing them in with charcoal, and then beginning to paint.
Really the concept of ‘Elements’ (also the title of this piece) came into play within the last day while I was working on it. The piece seemed very unfinished with just the form and the flowers, so I picked my favorite color of blue, and started going crazy in an experimental creative rampage. The result ended up being water which added another element. Air shortly followed as I added whisps into the piece, and I was rushing the piece (still wet) off to the Slusser gallery to display!
The gallery opened on November 18th, and closes on December 14th. It is commonly open between 9-5 M-F, and until 7pm on Wednesdays. I have uploaded a few images of my work from this show on the opening night. This piece is for sale. If interested, please e-mail or call to inquire.
